Hi collaborator!

(Thanks for being here! Your discount code is at the bottom of this email!)

As we move through the holidays, I’ve noticed that many people ask me, “Are you ready?” While the trend is to fill our days with shopping, baking, cleaning, decorating, inviting, rsvp’ing, making lists, and checking them twice, I invite us to try a co-regulation approach to holiday prep.

Let’s sit with our dogs, take deep breaths, and explore the warmth of belly rubs.

I know that slowing down can be scary. You may worry that you’ll feel overwhelmed, or that this year’s losses will drown you in grief, or that you might never get back to your productive pace, or that the world will forget you as the bustle goes on.

Yes, these are all real things to fear. How can we possibly slow down?

The dogs can show us how.

Allow your dog to provide you with the connection, comfort, and scaffolding you need to be still for just a moment. They will show you how to find the most comfortable position for resting your weary head. They’ll snuggle against and hold your grieving heart. They’ll provide so much warmth as they fall asleep on your lap that you’ll have to let the next thing on the list wait ‘til later.

Your dog will know exactly how much stillness is enough. They won’t let you get overwhelmed or drown or stop moving completely. For soon, it will be dinner time or walk time or play time or chase the cat time. And once your dog is up, they’ll make sure that you follow them to whatever is next.

So, are you ready (to follow your dog’s lead)?

Thanks for a great year!

Here are some things that happened this year, and I’m so grateful:

Over 840 people have downloaded my Co-Regulation Workbook!

Marilyn Mele invited me to participate in 2 public events, and now my newsletter list has 880 subscribers!

When I send newsletters, nearly 60% of you open and read them. Every time.

A collaborator who purchased the Sensory Safety Planning Workbook said, “Enacting the plan I developed through the workbook has stopped my overwhelm and stress detracting the joy of each walk. I feel safer and more assured advocating for myself.”

A Co-Regulation Coaching client recently sent me a video of her dog taking a walk on leash. Just a few months ago, this dog would run in fear when he saw the collar!

A dog behavior pro who learned from the Everything But the Words recorded webinar said, “I spend a lot of time with [my dogs] (and work as a dog trainer) so it seems obvious to me to watch a dog's body language and mannerisms. I had not really given much consideration to applying those same ideas to observing a person's body language…maybe these new tools will help me to better evaluate why some clients can't seem to engage.”

And a Sensory Beings participant commented that, “Your explanations of proprioception, interoception, and vestibular sense and how they are affected by trauma gave me a deeper insight into how to help dogs find their balance again.  All the videos of you and Muggins were fun to watch, but the demos also made things really memorable!”

Overall, it seems like we are finding a shared sense of safety, understanding our dogs and ourselves more deeply, and learning new ways to connect.

Thanks for collaborating with me and your dogs!

The Happy Dog Happy Human Podcast has released 17 episodes so far!

Our next episode is coming Tuesday, 12/26: On Success with Dogs!

In this episode, we explore our perceptions of what it means to be a “successful” dog guardian and work on reframing this to support our mental health and our perceptions of our dogs’ behavior. We also answer the questions: Do dogs set goals? Do they feel proud when they accomplish something? And, How do they feel about failure? Angela opens up about her journey as Duchess’s guardian, and Sharon shares the Sniff Box care tip, a low cost resource to enrich your dog’s days and support them in managing frustration.
