Hi collaborator! Yesterday evening Muggins told me they were hungry. So, I prepared a bowl of food and placed it on the floor in our kitchen. Muggins sniffed the food but did not start eating, so I sat down on the floor nearby and offered a breathing session and treat. Muggins took the treat and left the kitchen to eat in another room. Tom, who was preparing our dinner while enjoying some Spotify tunes, noticed Muggins and thought out loud, “I wonder if the music is too loud”. Tom turned off the music and I called for Muggins while tossing another treat on the floor near the entryway. Muggins accepted my offer and returned, eating the treat on the way and then going to their bowl. Muggins took a few sniffs and then began eating. I felt a warm tenderness of gratitude in my heart as I watched Tom objectively assess Muggins’s behavior and then make an adjustment to the environment to support Muggins in being able to eat. I also smiled in noticing a synchronous teamwork that we have developed as a family, noticing each other’s behavior, recognizing our impact on each other, and making adjustments to provide support, or space, or safety, or whatever is needed for us all to thrive.
