With the holidays packing in so much stimulation, disruption of daily routines, higher social demands than typical, and richer foods than you would ever otherwise eat - this first part of the year requires an intention to rest and recover, not radical reinvention or rigid resolution. Intentions are like points on a map; you can choose the point to move toward, but there are many routes you can take and no rules about how long your journey lasts. Dogs are masters of rest and recovery - if you live with one, they are likely in their favorite sleeping spot right now, head on the pillow, dreaming of sunshine and butterflies. If you need some guidance for how to intend to rest and recover, here are some New Year’s Intentions inspired by the wisdom of dogs: Unabashedly ask for what you want. Be persistent in recruiting support, you deserve to have your needs met. Practice napping in luxurious comfort. People love to give massages - ask for them often. When you find something that interests you, be still with it, study it, inhale it deeply until all your questions are satisfied. When you find something delectable, bathe yourself in it joyfully until everyone around you is aware. Play with abandon - this is how you practice being.
