from Kartik, with love for Orio

With Sharon, I felt fully seen in my grief. I felt like I could finally open up and be myself in ways that I had struggled to in other support structures available to me. Sharon showed me how I could process the trauma and pain of losing my dog through somatic practices and reshaping my relationship to my body. Sharon helped me embrace - beyond mere logic and intellect - how trauma and grief live in the body, and what to do about it. By applying the exercises Sharon introduced me to, I finally had the means to cope with a kind of loss that isn't always given the recognition it deserves.

Beyond coping, these practices have transformed me by cultivating new relationships with myself. In a way, I honor the love that my dog showed me by learning to show up for myself in the ways he showed up to me. Through exercises and conversations, Sharon showed me how my relationship with my dog hasn't ended just because he is no longer physically with us.

My time with Sharon was also impacted by additional losses that came after my dog's passing, and nonetheless Sharon held space to explore how these forms of grief interrelated with one another. Our time together was not siloed by topic or modality, and the therapeutic value of our sessions have allowed me and my relationship with my dog to continue growing, I hope for years to come. I'll be forever grateful for Sharon and the support I was able to get, which in a time of profound hopelessness, was a launching pad for something truly transformative.
